Current status of the social situation, well-being, participation in
development and rights of older persons worldwide
The draft report provides a comprehensive overview of ageing-related issues at the national and regional levels, building upon the report of the Secretary-General (A/65/157) that was submitted to the 65th session of the General Assembly. Drawing upon recent research and empirical data from various sources, the report documents the demographics of older age; the economic status and participation of older persons; the health of older persons; societal perceptions and social integration; and the human rights of older persons. On each of these topics, the report attempts to account for the diversity of situations of older persons in society and across the world, as well as the changing reality and perceptions of older age.
